On April 15th, 2009 during the
Anti-Tax Tea
Party in Chicago, IL,
Susan Roesgen blatantly broke the bounds of
journalism and reporting. During what seemed to be
a peaceful, non-violent protest against excess in
government spending and increase in national debt, Roesgen of CNN
approached the group with an agenda of
her own. See the video below:
TRANSCRIPT:
ROESGEN: (Reading some of
the signs held by protesters) Uh, let's
see... 'Drop
the taxes,' 'Drop socialism.'
OK. Let's see. You're
here with your two
year old and you're already in
debt. Why
are you here today, sir?
MAN: Because I hear a president say
that he
believed in what Lincoln stood
for. Lincoln's primary
thing was he
believed that people had the right to
liberty, and had the right...(INTERRUPTED)
ROESGEN: Sir, what does this have to
do with taxes?
What does this have to do
with your taxes? Do you
realize that
you're eligible for a $400 credit...?
MAN: Let me finish my point. Lincoln,
Lincoln believed
that people had the
right to share in the fruits of
their own
labor and that government should not
take it. And we have clearly gotten to
that point...(INTERRUPTED)
ROESGEN: Wait, wait... Did you know
that the
state of Lincoln gets Fifty billion
out of the stimulus?
That's Fifty billion for
this state, sir. MAN: Can you stop this, sir? Hold on, hold
on.
MAN: Ma'am, ma'am, ma'am,!!! (Asking to finish
his statement)
ROESGEN: OK, well, Kyra, we'll move on over
here.
I think you get the general tenor of
this. Uh, it's anti-government, anti-CNN,
since this is highly promoted by
the
Right-wing conservative network, FOX. And
since I
can't really hear much more, and I
think this is not really
family viewing.
Toss it back to you, Kyra.
KYRA: I know Susan Roesgen is
having a hard time
hearing me, but wow. That
is the prime example of
what we're following
across the country there. Susan
pointed out
everything plain and clear of what she's
dealing with.
This is egregiously
UNPROFESSIONAL CONDUCT that breaches the
basic canons of ethics for journalists. This
behavior wouldn’t be permissible in a junior high
journalism program, let alone during live coverage
of a significant event on a major news network. Such
behavior would be expected from immature members of organizations
like DailyKos, ThinkProgress, TheYoungTurks, Digg or other
liberal dominated websites, but this type of behavior is
NOT EXPECTED from a NATIONAL NEWS NETWORK such as
CNN. It is the responsibility of networks
such as CNN that reporters are fair in reporting and are
not politically motivated to slant their stories in the
direction they see fit (See
this video to see Susan's agenda - A protestor
scolds Ms. Rosegen regarding her behavior).
It appears that CNN and
others were so far behind the curve on the tea
party movement that they ceded coverage to Fox News
Channel -- then, ironically, used the rival network's
coverage as a reason not to take the events seriously.
How utterly sad -- for both the country and for any
semblance of journalism left. Easily over 100,000
concerned Americans interrupted their busy lives
Wednesday to commiserate over the financial future of
the nation. And for their trouble, major news networks
laugh, call them names and walk away. It says much more
about the news gatherers than the people they so
arrogantly look down on. When Republicans were in
charge, dissent was considered the highest form of
patriotism. Now, apparently, it's just a joke. (From:
Augusta Chrnoicle)
We are urging CNN to promptly
terminate the
employment of Susan Roesgen.
Such bias and
blunt misuse of national media will not be tolerated.
CNN must set an example that this type of behavior
against protestors will not be condoned any longer!
NOTE:
We are hoping that Ms. Roesgen and CNN have the courtesy
to issue an apology to the people she offended on that
day in Chicago, IL. They did NOTHING to deserve
viscous attacks by Ms. Roesgen.

HELP US OBTAIN A CLIP: There
was a different interview with Susan and Chuck Roberts
on CNN Headline News on April 15th, 2009 between

TVNEWSER:
CNN Reporter at Chicago Tea Party: It's "Anti-CNN Since
This is Highly Promoted By the Right-Wing, Conservative
Network Fox
"CNN correspondent Susan Roesgen could barely get
through her live shot at the Chicago tea party this
afternoon. Over shouts of, "You're not a reporter,"
Roesgen quickly wrapped up an interview with an
attendee, then said, "I think you get the general tenor
of this. It's anti-government, anti-CNN since this is
highly promoted by the right-wing conservative network
Fox.""
TVNEWSER:
Partied-Out CNN Reporter Takes a Break
"So far Roesgen is not talking publicly about the
situation. CNN tells us she's now on a

NEWSBUSTERS:
'Anti-CNN' TEA Party Reporter Rejected for Gig at Fox
News - Twice
"One peculiar line from one of her peculiar
rant-filled reports was that the TEA Parties were being
"anti-CNN" because they were "highly promoted by the
right-wing conservative network Fox." Well it turns out
she wasn't always so anti-Fox. "
MICHELLEMALKIN:
CNN beclowns itself
"So, the Tea Party protests are “not fit for family
viewing” according to one very unhappy CNN reporter,
Susan Roesgen, who also fumes over what she calls an
“offensive” anti-Obama sign that compares Obama to a
fascist. "
NATIONALREVIEW:
CNN's Susan Roesgen: Taking Hackery to New Heights
"...then she talks to a guy who seems perfectly
reasonable and rudely cuts him off multiple times. She
then attacks Fox News, ranting that the crowd is
anti-CNN and says that the tea party is not "family
viewing." Of all the leftist protests I've covered over
the years — and I've covered many of them — I have never
seen a reporter enter the fray and act personally
offended by the many, many examples of outrageous
behavior at a protest. I have never seen a reporter
enter the fray and act personally offended by the many,
many examples of outrageous behavior at a protest.
There's little to be gained by it, and it's simply not
professional. What Roesgen is doing here pure hackery.
Even as grandstanding, she fails. She goes about things
with all the subtlety of a brick through a window, and
in the end it appears she's just an angry jerk."
AUGUST CHRONICLE:
'Disgusting' doesn't cover it
"In one of the most unprofessional acts of
"journalism" we've ever seen, CNN's Susan Roesgen
"covered" a tea party by combatively peppering a young
father with leading questions, arguing with him, then
giving up and disparaging the entire event as
"anti-CNN.""
POLIGAZETTE:
CNN & MSNBC and the End of Journalism
"Wednesday made clear that two networks - MSNBC and
CNN - have truly jumped the shark. They have made a
tremendous turn to the left - they did years ago, and
especially last year already, of course, but their
left-turn has now reached the point it cannot get any
worse. The two networks have simply become outlets for
the liberal-wing of the Democratic Party, and
(therefore) for the White House."
THE OBSERVERS:
'Pro-Obama CNN' attacked at Tea Party
"A CNN reporter who struggled to keep her cool during

RENEWAMERICA:
CNN and MSNBC: sexual degenerates and liars
"The major news networks, except FOX News, spent the
day ridiculing, harassing, and insulting honest
Americans who have a Constitutional Right to protest
their government. They continuously lied to their
viewers as to the reason for this enormous protest."
CANADA FREE PRESS:
Shame on you CNN
"By now you’ve probably heard of the shameful actions
by Susan Roesgen, the CNN reporter who harassed
attendees at yesterday’s Chicago Tea Party. Instead of
reporting on the Tea Party, Roesgen picked people out of
the crowd to confront and argue with, before signing off
her report by labeling the tea party movement as
“anti-CNN” and “not family viewing.”"

her TEA Party reporting."

FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS
[BACK TO MENU]
Why go
after Susan?
For the reasons we listed above. We are not
looking to hurt this woman personally, but her behavior
towards the protestors breaches ethical journalism standards, and it is
something that should not be preached to the public
though national news. A news corporation has a
responsibility to its stockholders and its viewers.
We are against the behavior of Susan Roesgen and what
she did to the public: demean. Even though every
network has a bias, Susan used her political beliefs to
antagonize the protestors and make an event seem
"anti-government."
What
should Susan have done differently?
BE AN ACTUAL REPORTER, NOT A STIMULUS PRESS RELEASE
OFFICER! Go in there, get the facts,
interview both sides: some angry people and some
peaceful people. Be fair. Get some balance.
You know what's surprising? We found that the
majority of the protestors were peaceful! They
took time out of their own lives, rain or shine, to
protest excess government spending and prolonged
civilian burden. Sure you may not agree with their
message, but they have EVERY right to protest as you
enjoy the same right.
What
about Fox News Reporters? They are always spewing hatred and
anti-government propaganda!
This is just nonsense. Do some research.
Ratings tell a different story. The
majority of anti-Fox News comes from the left and only
the left. Judging from past and present events, it is
clearly evident that the left considers everything not
remotely left to be right-wing-extremist propaganda.
If you feel different, please dig though your own files
and find us a clip where a Fox News REPORTER engages in
this behavior at a protest. Fox caters to its audience,
which seems to have a larger conservative base. If
you don't like Fox, change the channel.
Who is
the woman who scolds the reporter afterwards, the
"suburban mother" ?
We don't know, but we sure would like to find out!
She handled herself really well, and set the reporter
straight! It's people like this that make protests
worth going to. If anyone knows who she is, please
let us know. We would love to have a statement
from her and post it on this website!
What do you get out of this financially?
Absolutely nothing. We are not after money or
fame. We just want to make sure that reporters do
not use their political views to hurt others who are
rightfully voicing their opinions--be they liberal,
conservative, Democrat, or Republican

NOTICE TO MSNBC
[BACK TO MENU]
In just the
past week, MSNBC has been subject of ridicule from
various media outlets, commentators,
and
even from their own correspondents. On the Olbermann
show and throughout MSNBC, we have heard two very
tasteless, defamatory, and degrading statements as
follows:
Janeane Garofalo refers to all anti-tax tea day
party participants as "racist rednecks."
(see
video here).
All you
fellow MSNBC watchers, you must take action against
this. Sure it may be commentary, but that does not
completely blanket you from following ethical standards
of journalism. We are planning to start a campaign
against this behavior.
MESSAGE TO SUSAN
[BACK TO MENU]
Susan, we
want to tell you that if you feel this strong about the
government, that you have every right to run for a
position in it! Perhaps your talents of reading off the
stimulus press release might serve better as the Press
Secretary for President Obama than at a tax
protest. Just don't run into and
ridicule and denigrate American citizens for
peacefully protesting against our
government.
If you, Susan, want to release a press
statement to us, contact: susancnn(AT)firesusan.com.
We will post your statement if you want.
Note: this email address will only accept emails from
