Sugaring Hair Removal
November 17th, 2010
Not all everyone like hair on specific areas of their bodies. Hair under the armpits, on the legs, arms, back and chest and bushy eyebrows are regarded by many as undesired hair. As a matter of fact, being seen in public with undesired hair typically under the armpits can be very embarrassing.Women especially will endeavour to enhance their look. It is as a result of the dislike for hair in these parts why different techniques of removing them have been established.
Sugaring hair removal is a technique used in the Middle East to eliminate unwanted hair from the body. It was developed in Egypt. The technique is also referred to as ‘sugar waxing’ because the procedure is similar to waxing. An all natural paste or gel is whipped up using ingredients that are frequently present in the home such as sugar, lemon juice and water and this is smeared on the skin. Like waxing, the hair is then pulled from the root. This method is effective and the results last up to 6 weeks. There are variations concerning the recipes that are used but real sugaring uses only natural ingredients. There are two ways in which sugaring can be performed: using the gel or using the paste.
Gel – the gel is smeared to the skin in the direction of the hair growth and then the hair is pulled out in the opposite direction.
Paste – this is viewed as the real sugaring procedure. Using the hands, a warm thick mixture is applied to the skin, first in the opposite direction of the hair growth. The mixture is then applied in the direction of the hair growth. To remove the hairs, it is flicked off in the direction of the hair growth.
The method can be performed on all areas of the body including eyebrows, upper lips, under arms, legs, arms, chest, stomach, back and the bikini line. Men should not use sugaring on their beard due to complex root system in beard.
ADVANTAGES OF SUGARING
1. The procedure can be performed rapidly by somebody who is experienced in the procedure. It is done rapidly because large amounts of hair are eliminated at once. Unlike waxing where the wax is smeared to an area then removed before you can progress to another area, with sugaring a large area can be covered at once.
2. Whether the gel or the paste is used in the process, any residue can be cleaned off easily as they are both water soluble.
3. If you overlooked an area in the process and some hairs are still remaining, you can reapply the mixture and repeat the procedure with no damage because it is mild enough to do so (sugar is mild on the skin).
4. It is inexpensive since it can be performed at home and the mixture can be made from regular ingredients in the home.
DRAWBACKS OF SUGARING
1. It can be difficult to find somebody to perform the real sugaring procedure. Some places publicise that they offer sugaring hair removal services but they use a wax that has been combined with sugar which isn’t the real sugaring.
2. It can be hard to get the right consistency when mixing the paste at home.
3. In order for sugaring to be done successfully, a little hair growth, about ¼ inch of hair growth is needed.
4. If you are clueless of the terms under which sugaring must be done, it may result in irritation of the skin.
5. It is painful when done on parts like the upper lips, genital area, bikini area and the chest.
Tip:
Before sugaring, it is best to eliminate all creams and oils from the skin and then apply powder to make sure that the skin is completely dry.
