The Best Meditation CDs Are…

June 24th, 2010

There are several basic types of meditation CDs available for purchase. How do you know which are the best? The following quick descriptions of each type will help you decide. There are basic music CDs for Meditation. These just have tunes that are assumed to be relaxing. They are better than nothing, assuming you actually enjoy the particular music that is on the CD.There are also guided-meditations that you can use. These are probably more useful and have more impact if you already know how to relax. You just follow the voice of the narrator as you are guided into a deeper state. These often address specific goals, like learning to be more patient or loving. There are musical pieces that have been discovered to affect brainwaves, slowing them down into a meditative state. These include pieces by Bach. Sometimes it is just particular movements within a piece that have the effect, though, so the value of these is somewhat limited. Then there are the Meditation CDs that purposely affect your brainwaves. It is much more efficient to use these brainwave entrainment recordings. This is especially true if you have trouble relaxing or meditating. All you have to do with these products is sit down, put on the headphones and listen. Embedded beats and pulses (usually in a background of music or the sounds of nature) cause your brainwaves to slow from their usual beta range into alpha and deeper, depending on the recording.A few more tips: don’t listen laying down, unless you want to use the recording as a means for overcoming insomnia. They will generally put you to sleep quickly. Also, don’t listen with your eyes open – at least the first few time – or you won’t get the full effect. Finally, get a Meditation CD that is at least thirty minutes long if you want deeper states of consciousness.
